Dr. Rajeev Kumar Leads Green Initiative as HPTDC Introduces Battery-Operated Electric Vehicles

In a progressive move towards sustainable and environment-friendly tourism, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has inducted five battery-operated electric vehicles for use at its prominent tourism units across the state.
These electric vehicles have been deployed at The Palace Chail, Tea Bud Palampur, Devdar Khajjiar and New Ros Common Kasauli to facilitate smooth movement of guests and visitors within the premises.

The six-seater electric vehicles are capable of running at a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour and can cover approximately 60 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicles are designed mainly for short-distance internal transport, ensuring comfort and ease for tourists, especially senior citizens and elderly visitors who often face mobility challenges in large tourism complexes.
While talking to Rajesh Suryavanshi, Editor-in-Chief, HR Media Group, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, IAD, Managing Director, HPTDC, informed that these battery-operated vehicles will significantly enhance the overall guest experience at HPTDC properties. He said the initiative is a step towards pollution-free transport and reflects the corporation’s commitment to implementing the electric vehicle transition in the state.
Dr. Rajeev Kumar further stated that the total cost of procuring these five electric vehicles is approximately ₹50 lakh. He emphasized that adopting electric mobility solutions is crucial for preserving the fragile ecology of Himachal Pradesh and promoting responsible tourism practices.
The formal inauguration of the electric vehicles will be conducted shortly by the Hon’ble Chairman of HPTDC. Officials clarified that the inauguration ceremony is expected to take place within the next few days.
Tourism stakeholders and environmentalists have welcomed the initiative, calling it a forward-looking step that combines modern infrastructure with environmental responsibility. With this initiative, HPTDC continues to strengthen its role as a leader in sustainable tourism, ensuring comfort for visitors while safeguarding the natural beauty of the hill state.
