Rs 7-Crore Upgrade Brrings Modern Amenities, Cultural Touch to Kangra Landmark

Baijnath – Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the newly revamped Baijnath-Paprola railway station in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, marking a significant upgrade to this key station in Kangra district.

Completed at a cost of Rs 7 crore, the transformation aims to blend modern infrastructure with local heritage, enhancing both commuter convenience and regional appeal.

The narrow-gauge station on the Pathankot–Joginder Nagar line now boasts an air-conditioned waiting lounge, retiring rooms, baby-feeding room, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a food court. Twenty stainless-steel benches, clean toilets, water ATMs, and a 1,544 sq m platform shelter add to passenger comfort.

Accessibility has been a core focus. Ramps, dedicated toilets, a separate booking counter, and marked parking areas have been added for persons with disabilities. Digital train information boards and coach guidance systems further ease travel.

Architecturally, the station now reflects traditional Himachali aesthetics, drawing inspiration from the cultural and spiritual richness of the Kangra Valley. Two new water booths, a cooler, and expanded parking cater to growing tourist footfall.

The station is a key access point for pilgrims visiting Baijnath, Jawalamukhi, Chintpurni, and Masroor temples, as well as for tourists heading to Kangra Fort. The redevelopment is expected to boost tourism and local employment.

As part of the national Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, similar upgrades are underway at Amb-Andaura, Palampur, and Shimla stations. These will soon feature roof plazas, children’s play areas, and improved lighting.

The event saw the presence of Kangra MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj, Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami, Baijnath MLA Kishori Lal, GM Railway B.K. Verma, Senior ADEN Palampur Ramesh Kumar, and Senior Section Engineer Jagriti Kumar.

India Reporter Today Chief Editor K. S. Sharma visited the spot with his team and covered the event fully, bringing ground-level insights into this landmark redevelopment.
