Renowned Maranda Businessman and Pillar of Society Passes Away at 91
Maranda and the wider Palampur region today mourn the loss of a towering personality — a 91-year-old renowned businessman, respected social figure, and an ardent patron of PALAMPUR REPORTER, who passed away leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy of values, vision, and warmth.

A voracious reader and deep admirer of meaningful journalism, he was among the earliest contributors and supporters of Palampur Reporter (now Himachal Reporter Newspaper) during its formative years in the early 1990s. Closely associated with the publication launched by founder editor Kuldeep Sood and Susham Sood, his encouragement, guidance, and efforts in bringing numerous subscribers played a vital role in strengthening the newspaper’s foundation. His belief in the power of a responsible press was unwavering.

Known for his hansmukh (cheerful) nature, commanding presence, and dignified personality, he balanced authority with humility. Vigilant in thought, soft-spoken in words, and firm in principles, he embodied the finest qualities of a successful businessman and a compassionate human being. His social nature, clarity of vision, ethical business conduct, and approachable demeanor earned him immense respect across generations.

Beyond business, he was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Brijla Sood, and his sons Nandeep Sood (Nandi), Sandeep Sood (Browny), and Randeep Sood, who is settled in Canada, along with a close-knit and loving family.
His last rites will be performed at the crematorium near Agro Petrol Pump in the evening hours. The entire business community, along with journalists, social workers, and citizens, has expressed deep grief over his demise, remembering him as a man of integrity, intellect, and kindness — a life truly well lived.
